This resource is intended to be a prayer session held in music it is about Being Present, Praising God, and Inviting the Spirit. It is in effect a a simple service of stillness, praise, and openness to the Holy Spirit. From now onwards if you see text in red these are instructions to help you prepare.
Find a quiet place.
If you wish, light a candle as a sign of God’s presence.
Take a few slow breaths.
Opening Prayer
Loving God,
I come into your presence just as I am.
I don’t need to perform or pretend.
Help me to be still before you,
to rest in your light,
and to open my heart to your Spirit.
Amen.
Reflection (read slowly)
“Be still… for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.”
Prayer begins not with our words, but with God’s presence.
We do not need to strive; we simply ‘turn up’ and let God shine on us.
Take a moment in silence.
Simply let yourself be in God’s presence.
(30–60 seconds of silence)
As we become still before God, praise rises naturally.
Prayer is joining the song of creation, and the love shared
between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Pause be with God and when your ready play the next hymn.
Holy God, we have sung of Your majesty, joining our voices with the song that echoes through heaven: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty. As the music fades, we rest for a moment in the truth those words carry — that You are beyond our understanding, yet closer to us than our own breath. Let the stillness that follows the hymn become its own kind of prayer, a space where awe settles into our hearts and we become aware of Your presence moving gently among us.
sit still for along as you like whilst you listen and reflect
And now, as we prepare to lift our voices again, draw us deeper into the mystery of Your love revealed in Jesus Christ. May the next hymn become more than melody and words — may it be our response to the grace that meets us, saves us, and transforms us. Teach us, through this music, to recognise Your holiness not only in glory but in the compassion, courage, and sacrifice of Christ our Saviour. Shape our hearts through these songs, that our worship may become prayer, and our prayer may become life. Amen.
Take a moment to name one thing you are thankful for today. Whisper it to God.
(Quiet pause)
Our next hymn is a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to kindle, melt,
purify and shape us, in other words it is a prayer to the Holly Spirit saying
“Ignite love in us, soften our hearts, cleanse our lives, and form us into Christlike people.”
Loving and gracious God, we have just sung our longing for Your holy fire to descend — a flame of love that purifies, renews, and awakens us to Your presence. As those words settle into silence, let the music continue its work within us. Where the hymn has stirred desire, deepen it. Where it has touched wounds, bring healing. Where it has kindled hope, breathe gently upon it until it grows. In this quiet space between songs, teach us to listen not only with our ears but with our hearts, trusting that the Spirit speaks through melody, memory, and the stillness that follows.
Holy Spirit, draw near to us now. Move in the places where we resist change, soften what has grown hardened, and strengthen what feels fragile. Let the prayer we have sung become the prayer we live — a willingness to be shaped, guided, and transformed by Your presence. As we prepare to sing again, open us to the fullness of Your work: the comfort You bring, the courage You inspire, the wisdom You whisper, and the life You breathe into Your people. May the next hymn become our response to Your gentle prompting, a song that carries us deeper into Your renewing power. Through these moments of worship, let music become prayer, and prayer become the rhythm of our lives. Amen.
As we come to the end of this time of prayer, we turn to a hymn that sends us back into the world.
“Shine, Jesus, Shine” is a prayer of openness and mission. It asks Christ’s light to fill us, cleanse us, and then flow through us into the places we live and work.
In Scripture we hear that the light of Christ shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. This hymn echoes that promise. We begin by asking Jesus to shine in us, to heal and renew us from within — and then we ask him to shine through us, so that our lives may carry his grace into the world.
As you listen or sing, imagine God’s light warming the places of your life that feel weary or shadowed.
And imagine that same light moving outward — touching others through your words, your compassion, and your presence.
This final hymn becomes our sending prayer:
“Shine, Jesus, shine… fill this land with the Father’s glory. Blaze, Spirit, blaze… set our hearts on fire.”
May Christ’s light shine in you and through you, today and always.
Loving God,
thank you for this time of stillness and song,
for the moments of quiet when we simply rested in your presence,
and for the hymns that helped us lift our hearts in praise.
Christ our Light,
shine in the places within us that feel tired or shadowed.
Shine in our thinking, our speaking, our loving,
until your brightness warms and renews us from the inside out.
Holy Spirit,
go with us now into the ordinariness of our day.
Kindle what is cold, soften what is hard,
cleanse what is cluttered,
and shape us into the people you call us to be.
Send us out to carry your light —
in our homes,
in our workplaces,
and in all the quiet corners of life where hope is needed.
May your glory touch our lives,
and may your love flow through us
to bless the world you cherish.
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
